2022 Best in Jewelry
My passion for creating jewelry began to evolve about 15 years ago, influenced partially by my father who had also been a jeweler for many years. Once I retired from Breitung Township School District as a social worker I was encouraged by a very supportive friend and artist to have my work juried into her local art show. I was accepted and have continued to participate in the Waterfront Art Show and Iron Mountain’s Art for All. I previously participated in Art in the Garden (Iron Mountain), Christine’s Gallery in Nahma, MI and most recently The Garden Gallery in Garden, MI. (However this gallery is currently closed due to Covid-19).
I have been fortunate to attend classes by some extremely talented and well-known artists at the Bead and Button Show held in Milwaukee, WI. I’ve also worked with and learned from many experienced artists in the Silver and Lapidary studio at the resort I winter at in Surprise, AZ. I have taught classes both at this studio and at the Bonifas Art Center in Escanaba, MI.
My work is done primarily in sterling silver and copper offering pendants, bracelets and rings using semi-precious stones and stones found on the shores of Lake Superior. Some techniques I use are form folding, reticulating, weaving and chain maille.
